Reclaiming Sexual Pleasure: A study of female agency in a post pandemic world

Ishita Sehgal

The post pandemic world is still adjusting and is attempting to go back to a life like the pre-pandemic era. Everything in the society has seen changes. From what we eat, how we carry on daily life and even how we understand our bodies. Living indoors for long period of times led to a change in the pattern of how we observe sexual pleasure and sexual agency. For women this pleasure came with added troubles. As technology evolved, Pornography became a space of solace for people of all genders. There were however cases of increasing sexual violence as well. But as the world is moving towards a post pandemic living, some things are happening for the better. This paper is an attempt to look at how post the pandemic, women are taking up spaces and are claiming their sexual agency and pleasure. It will be a study of how women see pornography differently and how they accept their own bodies. Women through different mediums have discussed how the pandemic changed their understanding of pornography, pleasure, masturbation and even menstruation. This paper will look at some women who have discussed these aspects on digital platforms either through vaginal art, paintings, podcasts or even photographs. Female pleasure and sexuality will be the main focus. The post pandemic world has positively helped some women to seek a better understanding of themselves or initiate conversations about sex, masturbation and even women friendly pornography. These women are appreciative of their bodies, their sexual health and the data they consume about sex. Post Pandemic situations are a way for women to reconstruct their identities and find empowerment for themselves even if they have to escape and cross the stereotypical barriers imposed by the societies.
